A Bayswater-based not for profit organisation is struggling to keep up with demand, with requests for their assistance quadrupling in the past 12 months.
Starting Over Support (SOS) is a charity dedicated to supporting families and individuals by providing free goods and furniture, such as beds, couches and white goods, after they leave a shelter or refuge.
Now the group is receiving a boost from P&N Bank’s Helping &nds Program.
SOS Manager Debbie Mason said the escalation in the number of people requiring assistance was worrying.
“During 2016-17 the demand for our services increased 260% and our volunteer drivers are working around the clock to collect and deliver much needed household items to as many people as possible,” Debbie said.
To enable SOS to cover the increasing cost of delivering the household goods, P&N Bank members have stepped in with a $2,000 donation.
