P&N members help another ten community groups

29 May2018

Ten grass-roots community groups have been assisted with a P&N Helping &nd in the latest round of funding.

The groups making up the top ten for this quarter were diverse, with their activities focusing on a range of needs in communities throughout Western Australia.

One of the groups to receive a $2,000 Helping &nd was the Byford Baptist Church Free Food Market. Established in 2016, the Market provides essential food items for over 70 families in need from the Byford area each week.

Coordinator of the Free Food Market, Murray Dixon said the group was down to its last $5 in mid-2107 and P&N's support will make a big difference.

“This grant will enable the Free Food Market to continue its work and provide for additional families if required, because we can plan and manage the provision of groceries with the knowledge that there are funds to ensure the ongoing viability of the service to the community.

“This grant from P&N Bank has taken the stress out of the planning process for the purchase of goods from Foodbank WA,” Murray said.

Other groups to receive a Helping &nd from P&N members were:

  • Kids Cancer Support Group - to help provide toys, support and entertainment for children diagnosed with cancer and other blood disorders.
  • Starting Over Support - to help provide household goods and furniture to families and individuals escaping crisis situations in Perth.
  • Husky and Malamute Rescue - to help rescue, rehabilitate and re-home huskies and malamutes and their crosses across WA.
  • Mandurah Volunteer Dolphin Rescue Group - to help rescue dolphins and small whales that become regularly stranded in Mandurah's shallow waters.
  • Riding for the Disabled Association Capel - to help provide equestrian activities to people with disabilities or mental health issues.
  • Youth Futures - to help support young West Australians who may be homeless, struggling with school, experiencing mental health issues, victims of abuse, or simply struggling to make ends meet.
  • Geraldton Menshed - to help promote male mental health and wellbeing, by providing a place for members to work together on projects for the shed or their community.
  • Rockingham Volunteer Sea Rescue Group - to help provide 24/7 emergency response services for the Cockburn Sound, Warnbro Sound and Rockingham waters.
