Have you seen a craftier solution to social isolation? We haven’t! And that’s just the beginning…
While Australia faces a growing crisis of more and more of its elderly becoming socially isolated, one local group has a crafty solution.
Every Tuesday morning in Duncraig, women come from across Perth to attend the Craft Corner. An ever-changing schedule ensures that new skills are continually being mastered, from beading and fabric painting to mosaics and crochet.
Yet all the while, the beautiful art of communication is creating an incredible sense of kinship and camaraderie; providing amazing strength in numbers for those battling loneliness and isolation. These lasting friendships have also guided many members through tough personal times such as sickness or mourning a significant loss.
Remarkably, this Power of & isn’t just contained to the four walls of the Craft Corner – the group puts its collective skills to very good use, creating useful items and fundraising for numerous charities such as the PMH Neonatal Ward.
For enquiries about joining the Craft Corner, call 9246 3376 before 1pm Tuesday to Friday.
