Homemade meals restore bodies and souls

Homemade meals restore bodies and souls

When friends or family go through a momentous life event, it’s hard to know how best to help. Lessening the load by bringing them a meal is always a winner and an online tool makes the process even easier.

Somehow, the arrival of a tiny new human can make whole chunks of time simply evaporate from the day. Hours zoom by, breakfast and lunch are forgotten as your baby absorbs all your focus between feeding them, changing them, settling them and gazing at them so you can etch their little faces in your memory forever. Then it’s dinnertime.

The once easy task of making dinner is a serious challenge with a newborn almost constantly cradled in your arms. So when a friend or family member brings over a tray of freshly made lasagne, it may as well be food from the gods, nourishing your unattended to stomach and relieving the burden of feeding others, particularly if you have older children. Imagine if there was a service where your loved ones could coordinate a meal delivering schedule so each night a different piping hot plate of deliciousness arrived at your doorstep?

In 2007, a group of friends created takethemameal.com when their friend collapsed with a sudden and serious heart condition. While friends and family were desperate to help the woman, her husband and four children whose lives were turned upside down, the constant and haphazard deliveries of meals were gratefully received but became overwhelming for the family. It sparked founders Adina Bailey and Scott Rogers into action, coming up with a website where people could coordinate meal drop offs for loved ones and provide easy-to-transport recipe ideas to help avoid 20 lasagnes. While they created the service for a sick friend, they fast realised the meal coordination service would be wonderful for new parents, the elderly, those experiencing a death in the family and other big life events.

Takethemameal.com highlights the spirit of the power of and, providing the perfect tool for community members to effectively rally around those in need.
