Time's up movement helps women stand tall together

In the aftermath of 2017’s revelations of predators rife in the entertainment industry, courageous women have stood together to say this behaviour will no longer be tolerated.

As all of the Hollywood heavyweights came together for the Golden Globes, there was a buzz in the air that went far beyond the best film from 2017. It was a year that exposed monsters more frightening than those imagined on the silver screen that sent a collective shiver down our backs and had many bravely telling #metoo.

However, from the ashes has risen the powerful form of women standing strong together. From Hollywood stalwarts, to the stars of the future, actresses walked the red carpet as visions in black dresses. The pages of “who wore what” have never looked more spectacular as a sea of black represented the new knights in shining armour. Who are in fact women there to save themselves and each other with the message they will no longer tolerate sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. The support of men was appreciated and welcomed, with plenty of dapper gentlemen in black suits acknowledging the new movement on their lapels with #TimesUp emblazoned.

Business Chicks CEO Olivia Ruello says the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have highlighted the astonishing power of what can happen when women unite and stand together to say enough is enough.

“I’ve always believed that resilience ultimately comes through connection, and I think that’s exactly what we’ve seen happen in the past couple of months,” Ruello says. “Women are realising that they’re not alone, and that realisation is an incredibly powerful thing because it gives women the courage to speak up without fear."

This army of beautiful, strong women dressed in black foresee a brighter future for all women. The movement isn’t limited to Hollywood, with Oprah Winfrey’s electrifying speech encouraging all women to speak their truth.

“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” Winfrey told the Golden Globes audience. "And I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories… But it's not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It's one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics, or workplace.”

Business Chicks was created on the premise of women lifting each other to greater heights by supporting each other, learning from each other and giving back. Oprah’s speech was a call to arms, which resonated strongly with Business Chicks’ core values and their hopes for women in business.

"What I hope we’ll see in the wake of Oprah’s phenomenal speech and the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements is women from all backgrounds and industries coming together, backing each other and working to build a world where there are no barriers to women’s success in life and in the workplace," Ruello says.
