There is something truly unique and special seeing a group of singers from varying backgrounds, join together to share the joy of music.
Anyone who has witnessed the Variety Youth Choir in action at one of their various performances around Perth or even on Telethon will no doubt be aware of the uplifting impact music has on its members and those who hear them sing.
Variety WA, one of P&N Bank's We Champion partners, plays a vital role in helping Western Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. One of the most well known and loved aspects of Variety is the Choir, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018.
The Choir comprises young people aged 7 to 27 and includes both singers and dancers, with members ranging in experience from beginners right up to students from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
Performing over 30 community and corporate shows each year, the Choir is a regular fixture at events around Perth.
"The Variety Youth Choir is a unique program that strives to enrich the lives of the members through friendship, self-confidence and singing and performance mentoring," Phil Croot, Variety WA General Manager said.
This unique program is appreciated not only by the public of WA, but also the Choir, with a member recently sharing “it's always fun and I leave rehearsals or a show with a big smile on my face - I love that no matter what your ability, we are all equal in the Choir.”
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, members of the Variety Youth Choir travelled to Adelaide in May to perform for delegates from around the world at the 2018 Variety International Conference.
"At Variety, we are incredibly proud of not only the personal growth and achievement of each Choir member, but the outstanding young ambassadors they are for Variety as they share their performances throughout Perth, and now a national and international stage," Phil said.
